Harper's Interpretation of Canadian Immigration Law
1) Said Jaziri, professional idiot, cromanion imam, lawful permanent resident, Canadian family, risking torture under the Ben Ali regime. Deported.
2) Belhassen Trabelsi, psychopath, godfather at the top of a totalitarian state, searched by Interpol, came to Canada one week ago. Difficult to deport.

Seriously, I always wonder when USCIS is going to remove the question from the green card application forms about whether the applicant was a Nazi war criminal; eventually it's going to be moot, no? But here's a guy who basically said "why yes, as a matter of fact, I did advocate the armed overthrow of a government!" In all seriousness.

From the articles you linked to:
a/ "Said Jaziri, presented false information to get into Canada, and lied about having a criminal record in France, where he served jail time"
b/ "The government has now revoked Belhassen Trabelsi residency status, probably because he wasn’t able to prove he had lived in Canada for at least two of the past five years, as the law requires. Ottawa has also moved to freeze his assets......It seems Mr. Trabelsi obtained his permanent resident status in the 1990s"
So, Benhassen Trabelsi got residency status under *gasp* Jean Chretien not under Harper. Further the trouble Benhanssen residency as well as with Jaziri are results of Chretien policies not Harper's.
Or do you mean that Harper is responsible for Chretien's policies and its remains nowadays?

Ella, for the record, I did, and do support Jaziri out of Canada.
Also, I couldn't care less about Chrétien.
However, there is a difference of treatment in the expediency of either file. Jaziri was not granted any open door to stay longer and was sent back to Tunisia manu militaris (rightfully so imo) at the risk of his life. No one spoke of legal hurdles then. OTOH, feet are being dragged to send Trabelsi back to a state where, although he would most certainly be condemned for raping it for a couple of decades, he would most probably go through that due and fair process his clan denied people before.
