Newer Month Open Thread
We may be on life support, but by gum, we're still here. Pile on. Last new monther had good stuff that should have been brought to the top too. Now there's Gaza flotilla fisking to do. (A way to tell if Turko-Israeli relations have soured fundamentally for real is if or when Bernard Lewis suddenly declares there had been an Armenian genocide after all). Other issues welcome too.

Hirsan Ali seems to be moving towards Jesus. http://www.3quarksdaily.com/3quarksdaily/2010/06/reform-or-renounce-ayaan-hirsi-ali-and-muslim-women.html

When I open this entry, I get a Google ad from AIPAC asking me to "urge Congress to support Israel's defense from Gaza flotilla radicals." Mommy, make them stop!

Ayaan is going on and on... although Tavis Smiley at least argued with her, however inadequately:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WxMHMcFh-s
the flotilla madness is intense: knowing IHH from my time in Istanbul, they may have discussed distribution with Hamas, but they aren't a wing of Hamas - nor, given logic, can they be aligned with both Hamas and al-Qai'da, two organizations that hate each other over Hamas accepting the democratic electoral process and, in principle, negotiation with the West - and the protestors were clearly defending themselves against aggressors when landed on at 4am in international waters.
as for the World Cup, I support the notion that once one's national team is out, one should support the team from the country with the lowest GDP - and Ghana is fighting strong. Go Black Stars!
