Happy May Day! New Month Post

Happy Real Labor Day, everyone!

Well, I suppose Site News is the most appropriate category for this little announcement...Tom and I are getting hitched, most probably at the beginning of September. I blame Aqoul - it's all about increasing contact and improving communication between people of various faith backgrounds, right?

So what have you all been up to?

Mabrouk!

Q: did you guys actually meet through Aqoul?

Posted by: M. at May 1, 2009 01:55 PM

Not quite. We met in the comments section of The Lounsbury's now-defunct livejournal page.

Hmmm, well Mabrouk, etc. 2003, a fine vintage.

Posted by: The Lounsbury at May 1, 2009 02:21 PM

Wow. Congratulations.

So which one of you is an ethnic or religious minority?

Posted by: David Weman at May 1, 2009 02:31 PM

Well, to be 100% accurate, we met initially online via Lounsbury's LJ comments section, but we first met in person in May 2007, when Tom moved back to the U.S., and I suggested that as we now had a number of people in a small geographic area, maybe we should all get together. At first something like 8 people, some fm out of town, were supposed to go, but when it came down to it, I was the only out-of-towner (and the only woman). I have to say, I had some misgivings, but well, I can't say I'm sorry I took a chance. :-)

(Also, as long as we're on the subject of pigs, a friend's annual Serbian pig roast was involved. The invitation that first convinced Tom to come visit was phrased along the lines of "you HAVE always wanted to see a pig hacked up with a chainsaw, right?" Apparently he did, and 2 months later, we were moving all his earthly belongings cross-country in a rented truck on a week's notice.)

Ah good, I hate being a matchmaker.

Eva,

Congrats to you and Tom...

Yeah, congratulations.

Awesome! Félicitations!

Thanks, all, and well, so far it's looking like one of the more multicultural weddings I've ever seen - Persian food, Balkan music, there will have to be at least a couple of horas, and let's not even get into who is going to officiate. Anyone know of someone who can do a trilingual ketubah?

Congratulations!

Lounsbury you old Cupid you.

Posted by: Meph at May 5, 2009 07:36 AM

Bah, humbug.

Posted by: The Lounsbury at May 5, 2009 04:36 PM

So Lounsbury, am I banned from commenting on your blog or is there another reason for my comments not showing up? It is fine if I am, it is your place and you can do what you want.

Posted by: Brn at May 5, 2009 09:25 PM

David, way back up there: Eva is the religious or possibly ethnic minority. I'm as waspy as they come.

Posted by: Tom Scudder at May 6, 2009 11:02 AM

Yeah, yesterday's comment is probably stuck in the moderation queue, but I am a Central/East European (nonobservant) Ashkenazi mutt, which means I am a minority practically everywhere (whether religious or ethnic is a much longer discussion). Tom, though of WASP heritage, has spent large chunks of his life in places where WASPs are a distinct minority.

Banned?

No one is banned. You may have fucked up typing the absurdly simple spam catcher, in which case I have to bother to log into the damned admin function and find your comment and rescue it from spam, but banned?

Banning people takes too much effort.

Posted by: The Lounsbury at May 6, 2009 05:43 PM

There, I rescued both you and Hogan from Spam Incompetents neverneverland. You're lucky, there wasn't much junk for me to wade through.
