Keffiyeh & Donuts: Ad Cancelled Because of Scarf Threat
Can it get dumber than this? Probably, but you'd have to work at it. The disturbing part is not the initiation of an attack on an ad because of a scarf that looks like a keffiyeh, it's that the anything-but-small-time ad sponsor would roll over so quickly, with no counterreaction against them for doing so. (Bonus related question: What is it about nationalism and, in other contexts than this, feminism, that makes such issues out of headgear?)

Even more ludicrous that it's not even a keffiyah fabric, but paisley.
That said there were loads of multicoloured (even glittering) keffiyah scarves on sale in various UK high street shops when I visited last month. I don't remember Yasser Arafat ever wearing one woven in pink and orange, but you never know.

Absurd? Yes, but not remotely surprising given the utter hysteria which surrounds all things "Palestinian" in the US.
If I were a conspiratorial type, I might even think Dunkin' Donuts did this deliberately. I know I for one would certainly never have seen this ad had it not been for the 'controversy' surrounding it....

AT: or maybe they have real problems, but the internet provides them the space, time, and audience to vent about the neuroses they carry...
"the voices in my head tell me Rachel Ray is part of the Palestinian/anti-Zionist global agenda - kind of like the Globalist/Zionist agenda, but EVIL!"
