Al Bawaba's interesting reading

A glance at Al Bawaba English blogs section's Most Read Articles is somewhat disturbing. All five of them come from the same blog:

Interestingly, for a "most read article", there are either no comments, or only old comments, and one of the articles apparently originally appeared in Issue Number 53 of National Vanguard Tabloid in 1977.

Are these truly the "most read" articles on Albawaba.com? Or have they been hand picked by editors wishing to attract a certain type of blogger to set up on their site?

If anyone can give us an idea of the Most Read Arabic Articles are, it could be illuminating.

Comments

"Between Nancy's Dress and Haifa's Pants" (with quality illustrations!)
"Haifa Fever" (see above)
"Her and Her Secrets"
"Understanding the Crying Man" (his heart is broken, poor chap)
فتاة المولات محل بنت الجيران - this one I can't quite translate but it looks like a "secret lives of the Saudi chyx" story.

Curse those sneaky Arabs, saying one thing in English where we can all see them, but then sneaking off and talking about something else entirely in Arabic...

No! You are not serious?!

That is the funniest thing ever! I was expecting more of the same, only worse.

I was, too. Now I wonder just how many English blogs albawaba actually hosts.

In some ways, it pretty well summarizes the difference between what English-speakers hear coming out of the Arab world and what Arabs actually talk about among themselves.

Hi Tom. I can see you understand some Arabic but unfortunately you fell into the same-root trap.
A more accurate translation would be:
"Haifa Flu" as in bird flu
"Her and her Bed"
"Confessions of a Man Crying"
The last one would be "Mall Girl Replaces Girl Next Door (Neighbour's Daughter)"

Thanks. Didn't feel like breaking out the hans wehr & anyway I think I got the "true confessions" flavor. I did get the Haifa thing, I just felt like "Haifa Fever" read better in English. Though you do lose the bird flu joke/reference that way.

Them publishing articles by the National Alliance / National Vanguard is not surprising. Al-Jazeera has published their pieces from time to time.
